"I have always had a love for Abstract Expressionism. The freedom of movement, the use of color, and the textural quality has always appealed to me. Abstractions are currently my expression. One style I often use is known as Photo Peinture, a term introduced in the mid 1860’s at the salons and the Royal Academy in France. This technique includes painting over photo-images fixed on canvas. In the process my photographs are joined to the canvas and then the entire painting is completed through a blending of colors, a creation of textural surfaces, and, sometimes camouflaging the photograph. The photographs are taken on-location as well as in my studio. It is always interesting to see people take a “second glance” at my paintings to see if their eyes have deceived them. I welcome you to my Studio and Gallery in Binghamton , NY to view my work or to simply visit and chat about art and history and life."

That one meeting of nine people began what would become simply "The Network". The first committee formed was for education and in 2010 The Network held its first symposium in conjunction with Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. Sugar Creek Maple Farm was established in 2009 by fourth, fifth and sixth generation maple syrup producers. Our ancestors began making maple syrup in the late 1800’s in a small patch of woods on our family’s 150 acre farm in Vestal Center, New York. The first sugar shack had two sides and a roof and produced dark, smoky flavored syrup. In 1981 a new, larger building was constructed a short distance from the original and we still use that building today. Today, the whole family is involved with the production of maple syrup and has even expanded our maple products to include confections and other delicious items. We still tap trees, hang buckets or run tubing to our Sugar House where we cook sap over a wood fire, just like our ancestors. We are proud of our heritage and strive to produce the highest quality products and sell them at competitive prices. We welcome any feedback that you may have for us. You may contact us at anytime at info@sugarcreekmaplefarm.com.

Until the advent of the automobile, Windsor had been one of the leading manufacturers of buggy whips in America. Over the years, the building deteriorated into an eyesore of neglect. In the summer of 1999, Johanne and Bill Pesce purchased the building and restored it to its original Italianate architecture, turning it into an upscale art gallery and vibrant community art center. A schedule of classes & workshops, seminars, life classes and print making have become a regular feature of Windsor Whip Works Art Center. In 2008 the Art Gallery became Windsor Whip Works Art Center— a nonprofit organization acting as a visual arts resource for people all ages and abilities, serving Broome and Delaware Counties, as well as Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Blind Tiger Pub

4402 Watson Blvd.
Johnson City, NY 13790

(607) 729-8944
www.btpub.com

The "Blind Tiger" is an American slang term for an illegal drinking establishment. The term is most commonly found in the South. It's synonym, "Blind Pig," is more common in California and the Northern Tier States. The terms apparently arose from the fact that it was illegal in many areas to sell alcohol by the drink because the term was used to avoid licensing fees. Proprietors of drinking establishments would advertise animal curiosities and gave customers who paid to see the animals a "complimentary drink." Often there were no actual animals to be displayed and it was a thin facade that law enforcement officials winked at. Blind Pig dates to at least 1870, while Blind Tiger appears to be a bit older, being traced to 1857.

What began as a simple pizzeria ultimately grew into a full-service family restaurant. His philosophy was uncomplicated, "Good food is for everyone". The idea of combining authentic dishes with local cuisine at a great value marked the beginning of the Fata family tradition of culinary excellence that continues to this day and makes Brothers 2 a unique Italian eatery in Binghamton, NY. Over the past 40 years, continuous requests for banquet and catering services led Domenic to add to his family restaurant. In 1982 they built their first banquet room with the addition of a second room and catering kitchen in 1988. Currently the banquet facilities accommodate over 300 guests. Overall, Brothers 2 is the remarkable result of the enduring principle that great food and service are the consistent hallmarks of a restaurant that celebrates the very best of the Italian ex

Dannys Diner has been in business since the 1930's but at its present location since the 70's. The diner is just that, a diner and what you would expect a diner to look like as you walk in. You will see an old time coffee counter with booths opposite the grill where your food is cooked to your own satisfaction. Another nice thing that I noticed and appreciated was there was no special lighting or loud music. There was only one waitress greeting you with a smile that won't quit and Danny himself behind the grill cooking to please his customers. After your given a generous portion of food and a refresher on your beverage. You'll never be leaving Danny's Diner hungry. Cuisine: American

Endicott, NY 13760

(607) 484-9716

Joey’s Pizzeria began in 2002. Our “Old World Style” of cooking dates back to 1830 when the first pizzeria opened in Naples, Italy, which is still open today. It began with wood brick ovens, fresh ingredients and the customer’s insatiable appetite for quality. Our brick oven is manufactured in Italy by specialty craftsmen. The cooking chamber is made with highly refractory material. While most gas ovens burn from 500 -550 degrees, our wood fire oven burns at 1100 degrees 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure fast and convenient service. As a result, we burn through approximately to cords per month. Due to the nature of our style of cooking, please bear with us! Quality takes time because we feel that a wood fire oven gives the ultimate flavor-a superior feature in pizza making. A minor and very rare drawback is the heat recovery time that is needed causing extended cooking time during our busiest hours. I decided in 2007 (due to my dedicated customers&rsq

www.moxiegrill.com

Husband and wife duo Mark and Victoria Tedeschi chose their restaurants fateful name a year before the flood hit Conklin, New York in June 2006. "We envisioned Moxie as a different kind of restaurant. A place we'd want to go; with a warm, upscale ambience and trendier types of food. Something you'd find in on the west coast. However, creating such a different kind of restaurant in a small town was a risk; a risk that called for Moxie." The floods came to Conklin, New York just weeks before the grand opening of Moxie. The damage caused by over five feet of flood water was so extensive that the Tedeschis were forced to rebuild Moxie from the ground up. Today Moxie is a thriving local hot spot in Conklin. Moxie is actually the result of Mark and Victoria's own desire for change, coupled with their belief that others shared the same desire. And their conviction - their moxie - paid off. With contemporary décor, sophisticated cuisine and late hours, Moxie is an unexpectedly chic re

Nirchi's On The Avenue

215 Washington Avenue
Endicott, NY 13760

Nirchi's on the Avenue was established in February of 2001. Of course, every family establishment has its family roots. Nirchi's On the Avenue was started by Rocco Nirchi, the son of Nicolina and Francesco Nirchi. Mr. and Mrs. Nirchi came to the United States in 1957 from Pofi, Italy. As did many of the Italians on the north side of Endicott, they came to the United States to make a new life for their family. Endicott Johnson provided them with work and the promise of a new life. In 1967, Mrs. Nirchi opened a small Italian deli on the north side of Endicott. Francesco cut hair at a local barbershop and continued to work at Endicott Johnson. At the time there were many small grocery stores in the Italian section of Endicott. Nicolina felt she needed something to set her apart. She started making square sheet pizza to sell by the slice. It was not long before she could not keep up with the demand. After putting her children, Rocco and Elena, through college, she needed more help. Rocco s

Pickle Hill Bed & Breakfast

795 Chenango St
Binghamton, NY 13901

We love our home and we love sharing it with our guests! Since 1989 we have welcomed thousands of visitors to our bed and breakfast. Named for a long ago local pickle works, Pickle Hill B&B evokes the charm and simple pleasures of nineteenth century living. It's a comfortable spot for all seasons. In the summer enjoy homemade ice cream on the front porch. Or catch a glimpse of herons or egrets as they fish in the nearby Chenango River. In winter sip a cup of hot tea or mulled cider in the Lowell Thomas reading room. Spring and fall are great times to stroll in the park down the street to enjoy the cool rustling of trees and the rushing river. We love our community, too, and are always happy to tell our guests about the historic, cultural and scenic gems of the Greater Binghamton Area and upstate New York. We look forward to your visit to Pickle Hill! Your hosts, Tom and Leslie
