What to Do Outside in the Central New York Region

Animal Adventure Park

From art walks to animal adventures and from history to golf, there is something to get you out of the house.

Art

Immerse yourself in the art that surrounds you while on the Binghamton Mosaics Tour. These mosaics were created by partnerships with local artists in the Binghamton area. You can also walk among various public sculptures outdoors that are located all around Downtown Binghamton – many that hold some interesting history.

If you are in the mood to explore from the comfort of your vehicle, you can take a self-driving tour on the Oneida County Barn Quilt Trail. Scope out colorful quilt block patters that are on numerous barns around the county.

You can also wander through Griffiss Sculpture Garden located on the Griffiss Business and Technology Park. These unique sculptures were done by a variety of different artists from all over the world.

Stone Quarry Hill Art Park is another place to adventure and view beautiful sculptures.  While overlooking the beautiful landscape of Cazenovia, you can explore the magnificent art that was created by established artists.

History

While you may not be able to go into historical exhibits at the moment, there are still a variety of landmarks that you can explore from outdoors.

Take an adventure on the Path Through History trail. Learn about famous suffragists, innovators and former leaders that made a difference in our country. You can even pick your own path to explore – each with their own focus – whether it be sports history, civil rights movements, immigration and women’s rights and so much more.

Tents at Fort Herkimer

Herkimer is one of our historic hot spots where you can explore the grounds of Fort Herkimer Church, Herkimer Home State Historic Site or Fort Klock.

Family Fun

Animal Adventure Park has reopened its doors for visitors to explore. This park takes you on a safari journey allowing you to view animals from all over the world.  

Looking for something fun to do at night? Experience the El Rancho Drive-In Theater. Built in 1951, this historic drive-in movie theater makes for fun movie experience for the whole family.

Golf

New York state regulations allow you to hit the greens while practicing social distancing. In CNY, we have a grand amount of golf courses to tee off at. From historic golf courses like Leatherstocking Golf Course to the prestigious Seven Oaks Golf Club where legends have played, there is a course for all.
