The mission of CPF is to protect the historic, agricultural and natural resources in and around Cazenovia for the benefit of the community. CPF sponsors many community events, such as the popular walk among the spirits cemetery tour. Oneida Lake, a relatively shallow natural lake with an average depth of 22 feet, is the largest lake lying wholly within New York State. The pier at Chapman Park is excellent for viewing bald eagles, woodpeckers, blue birds, turkey, osprey, foxes, coyotes and various species of fish.

This property totals over 9,400 acres in southeast Madison County and makes up the core area of the Brookfield Trail System, a highly acclaimed horse and snowmobile trail system. Watch for turkey, ruffed grouse and migratory songbirds.

Chenango Canal

Walk, mountain bike, geo-cache or picnic on the 7-mile Chenango Canal Towpath Trail from Hamilton to north of Bouckville. The Chenango Canal is a year-round designated trout fishing stream, artificial lures only, and a National Recreation Trail. Brown and Brook Trout are stocked by Madison Central School and Trout Unlimited with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The Towpath Trail is maintained by volunteers with the Chenango Canal Association.

Our Chenango Canal Cottage Museum located on Route 20, Bouckville offers vintage photos of our historic past. The Chenango Canal Association maintains and improves 5 miles of the original Towpath Trail along the 181-year old historic canal. A Òtwo-mileÓ trail connects the Towpath to the village of Hamilton. Chittenango Falls State Park

A picturesque 167 foot waterfall is the main attraction of Chittenango Falls State Park. Glacial sculpting over 400 million year-old bedrock is responsible for this scenic feature. An interesting variety of both plants and wildlife may be found along the trails. Watch for the Chittenango ovate amber snail, an endangered species that is found nowhere else on earth.

The Fenner Renewable Energy Education Center (FREE Center) offers awe inspiring views of rural Madison County. Set in the midst of the 20, 1.5 megawatt wind turbines, the site uses solar energy and is equipped with a composting restroom.

The Finger Lakes Trail is a footpath for hikers which stretches 560 miles from the PA/NY border in Allegheny State Park to the Long Path in the Catskill Forest Preserve, crossing beautiful and remote areas of the Southern Tier of NYS. The Morrisville State College Equine Complex is one of the most comprehensive of any college in the nation. The Equine Breeding and Training Center, a 34,000 square-foot breeding and hunter/jumper facility, includes a breeding and foaling barn, hunter/jumper barn, five-stallion barn, a complete breeding laboratory, collection area, laptop classroom and three indoor riding arenas. In addition, the college has an 80-acre Equine Center complete with paddocks, stables, and the only half-mile harness racing track on a college campus in the nation. Additional stables include a draft horse barn with a covered round pen and runouts. The college houses more than 300 horses. The Equine Department conducts an annual yearling sale at the complex which is one of the largest of its kind in the Northeast. It also hosts several clinics each year, conducted by the top professionals in the industry.

Mt. Hope features; 65 acres of land for fishing, hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, and camping. Mt. Hope was home to OneidaÕs first swimming hole back in the 1940Õs and 1950Õs.

This 3,090-acre forest includes diverse terrains and habitats. In fact, the forest, along with neighboring Three Springs and Mariposa State Forests, is home to more than 100 species of birds, more than a dozen reptiles and amphibians and more than 50 mammals. Watch for blue-winged warblers, northern goshawks, white-winged crossbills, red spotted newts, pickerel frogs, red foxes, southern fling squirrels and porcupines.

This museum covers over two thousand years of history. Here you can see: (1) an ancient Egyptian mummy (2) early Native American tools (3) extinct and rare birds (4) 18th, 19th, & 20th century artifacts including locally-made implements (5) fine Native American beadwork (6) old and rare books, maps and paintings depicting the area. The museum is open 9am-9pm Monday through Friday; 10am-5pm Saturdays; closed Sundays. No admission charge.

The National Abolition Hall of fame and Museum is situated in the buildingÊ in which the inaugural meeting of the New York State Antislavery Society met in 1835. NAHOF has exhibits on the abolitionist inductees to the Hall of Fame, the history of American Abolition, and Female Abolitionists, displays of the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation and the Empire State in the Civil War, and DVD + Scrapbook resources. Named for the ancestral home of the Colgate family, Seven Oaks Golf Club is nestled on the Colgate University Campus in Hamilton, New York. In 1934, a young architect by the name of Robert Trent Jones was brought to Hamilton to begin work on designing the course. In 1956 ground was broken on the first nine holes, officially opening on July 4th, 1958. On September 4th, 1965 the last nine holes were opened for play. Seven Oaks is characteristic of all Jones' courses, which include strategic deployment of water, along with extensive tee areas and large, expansive greens.

Built in 1820 as the Peterboro Presbyterian Church. In 1835, the first meeting of the New York Anti-Slavery Society was held here. It later served as the Evans Academy, the Peterboro Union School, and the Peterboro elementary school. The building houses the Town of Smithfield offices and the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum. Listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, and part of the Heritage NYS Underground Railroad Trail.

Most trails are designed for skiers with a beginner or intermediate skill level.
